AR-15 Magazines

his, some folks like a bright follower, me I hate anything bright, I don’t even like stainless AR-15 magazines (to shiny).

Any chance Larry might give us a hint on how far backordered the SS ar-15 are, I’m still waiting on my order from 6 Nov. (I Know things are busy, the the e-mail said 2 weeks, and that was 4 weeks ago)

The stainless steel magazines are backlogged about 4 weeks. Again, we set aside each day internet orders and distributor/OEM. Each department is alloted a certain amount.

AK-47

I have a Kvar set with the standard length that I am getting ready to install. It appears to be good quality, but the standard/short stock is really short. It was designed for smaller people who may be wearing heavy coats and AK-47 (think Chicom style chest rigs).

Rifle Scopes

was looking at the GRSC CRS Rifle Scope myself and really like everything it offers! I don’t like that it’s a Millett with w/ a great reticule because of the Millett’s weight and less than stellar performance. Some of the things mentioned above (minus the ridiculous comparison to NCstar) including the fact that no more will be made in the foreseeable future, steered me away from it.

I’ve come across the new Burris Rifle Scopes XTR-14 and have decided on it. 1-4×24 illuminated horseshoe/dot 100-1000yds bdc calibrated for 5.56 62gr approx $550. I was very pleased with my Burris FFII for a $200 scope; FFII is their budget line while XTR is top of the line!

Walther Magazines

Well, my S&W PPK is rather picky about ammo, and moody on occasion to boot. As previously stated, they do like to run wetter than you think they ought to be.

Don’t buy into the "no JHP ammo" stuff; Walther Magazines extended the beavertail and re-angled the feed ramp to suit american hands and preferences.

The best ball round in "my" PPK has been Walther Magazine, with the WinClean being preferred. My pistol hates AE with a passion, and will FTF and do other wonky things. But it loves Federal Personal Defense. Usually it likes Remington 88gr JHPs, and for about 100 rounds it loved Wolf, after which it promptly went to FTF every second round. My wife calls the thing "the princess" for that reason.

The moral of the story is that they’re picky. As the springs wear in, the preference may change. Buy a box of each, try them all, shoot the ones that work. When they stop working, shoot a mag from each of your other boxes, and keep shooting the one it likes now.

Alright….Jason from BigDawg Tactical hooked me up with this rig and it arrived today. I immediately took it to the range for some testin’.

First off I’ve owned TA31’s, TA11’s, Trujicon Compact ACOG’s, Aimpoints, EoTechs, and a few variable scopes in between. I recently decided to ‘dumb down’ my AR’s to make them SHTF ready, rugged, and obnoxiously easy to use. Flip the safety to "fire" and go. Given the TA33R8’s BDC feature, BAC feature, chevron reticule, and overall lightweight construction, THIS is the only magnified optic for me! It’s like a TA31 hooked up with a TA50 one wild saucy night and conceived an illegitimate child!

Eotech

Bluedog,

I appreciate you taking the time to post that. Now I know for sure the 3 components will not fit together on a 6920.

Mind you….."DEBORAH" and "JOHN" OVER THERE AT EOTECH CLAIMED THIS WOULD WORK.

But, I was on the phone with her and was suspicious of the validity of what I was hearing because she didn’t even know what the 517 looked like. (I had to explain to her that unlike the 512, the 517 was recessed to fit over an M4 handguard) When she had to relay my question to some guy named "John" in the background who never got on the phone, but told her "Yea, it’ll fit", I didn’t take it seriously! I WASN’T BORN YESTERDAY TO NOT BE ABLE TO RECOGNIZE WHEN I’M DEALING WITH INEPT OR INCOHERENT PEOPLE!

Man am I PISSED WITH THAT COMPANIE’S LACK OF CUSTOMER SERVICE!!

Thanks again for your time and help.

Colt 1911 magazine

There are several of the "production line" custom smiths like Wilson, Les Baer etc. that will sell you a super-accurate gun, if thats what you really want. Yes, they are expensive, but they are very very good. The last brand I would buy is a Colt 1911 magazine, not because they are bad but because they offer poor value… you are paying a premium price for the pony rollmark on the slide. A Colt makes sense for a collector or for someone with more money than sense, but otherwise you get more bang for your buck with non-Colt 1911 magazines brands.

One more point - bear in mind that, in general, 1911 accuracy is gained by tightening clearance in critical areas (barrel lockup, chamber, slide-to-frame etc.), and this can increase the propensity to malfunctions. For a carry gun, you do not want accuracy at the expense of reliability.

Browning Magazine

Got it yesterday. Shot it, fifty rounds of browning magazine 115s on steel. No problems, cept the steel was calibrated for .40 and I had to hit it that much higher to put it down. Hell, I finger fucked it so hard before I got the paperwork done I had already bled on it. I’ve bled on every one of my fighting pistols, its only the revolvers I don’t bleed on.

Somehow FedEx shipped it to QUEBEC first. How they did that I do not know. I was fortunate that they did not discover the contents of the package before they flew it back to the United States!

I wish they would’ve sent it here first instead!!! I am happy for you. Now where’s your pics?

Now don’t flame me for asking this and it’s kind of off topic, but I was thinking about it the other day. Would you dare shoot Wolf through that? I don’t know why I thought of it, I don’t even own any. I’m just curious. I have shot some through my browning magazines and even my 1911, but hobbs said I shouldn’t back in the day.

AK-47

Finally, has anyone ever had an issue with stock screws backing out/coming loose?
I don’t think loc-tite will work, with PLASTIC AK-47 stocks, so I was wondering if a tiny dab of clear silicone would work, to keep the screws from backing out? I have a buddy who has this problem. I know that ak-47 Holster company has always recommended to use a dab of clear silicone, on the threads of their holster screws, to act as a sort of Loc-Tite. The clear silicone has proven to work really well for me in that application.
Anyone else have a better idea, to use on the stock screws, in conjunction with plastic stocks????
Thanks for help with the above questions guys.

Beretta 21 Magazine

I’ve had my Beretta 21Magazines (.40 S&W) for over 16 years and thousands of rounds. Only ever replaced the recoil spring as a preventative maintenance thing. Never a problem. Keeps firing every round and is as accurate as the day I bought it. I have spares (including a locking block) but have never needed to replace anything.

The more guns you have, the less rounds you’ll shoot through each, thereby reducing the possibility of breakage.

My favorite load for the Beretta 21Magazine is a 125gr lead TC bullet over 3.9 grains of 231. With this 25000 PSI load the Beretta should last forever. Just in case, I have another on standby.

Alot of people are preoccupied with +P+ and durability. My answer is handload and shoot reduced power loads. This way you get all the pleasure with none of the pain. If you ever have to use your gun defensively, I can guarrantee that you won’t notice the difference in noise or recoil

Glock 19 Magazine

o what if he does? Does that make him a freak or deserve a wow? Does that make him less of a man or something? Did I miss the memo that shows how they proved hand size directly relates to intelligence or penis size? What about women and kids, are they not worthy of shooting Glock 19 Magazine because their hands aren’t big enough either?

I just don’t understand the stupid comments that posted everytime this subject comes up. Such as..

And why the hell not? There is absolutely nothing wrong with replaceable grip inserts. Show me an example of even one polymer framed pistol with replaceable grip inserts that have had issues related to that feature? You can’t. You just don’t like it because you personally don’t need it. Well goody gum drops for you but there are a lot of people who do.

There is nothing wrong with replaceable grip inserts and it is stupid for any polymer pistol in this day and age not to have them. The problem is people like you who have no problems with the Glocks the way they are seem to think that if they work for you, they should work for everybody and if it doesn’t tough shit.

Well that’s not the way it works. Most companies have already caught on to that and whether you like it or not, Glock 19 Magazines will eventually have to wake up and smell that coffee too. Mark my words, it will happen. Maybe not this year or next but it is coming.

Don’t fret though, all you haters who think the Gen2 or 3 frames are perfection should rejoice because just think about all of the cheap Gen2 and 3 frames that will hit the market when everybody starts trading up the the Gen4 (or 5?) frames!

Glock 36 magazines

own a G20, 21, 22, & 23, developed the Glock 36 magazines, and have a huge amount of experience with Glocks and I doubt that he’d need any of those because:

1st - He doesn’t need and may not want a ported barrel because the soot from firing it blackens his front sight with one.

2nd - Dual recoil springs in a G35 are both un-necessary and unwise as they upset the slide timing.

3rd - He already has extended controls because the Glock 36 magazine comes stock with a 3.5# connector, an extended Slide Stop Lever, and an extended Magazine Catch.

What he needs is mags and ammo and if he doesn’t have them yet, a good set of night sights. I recommend TruGlo TFOs. They are a bit spendy at $100/set but worth every penny.

BTW: THIS is a truly ‘Tricked Out Glock’. It cost too much but for a 1st ever G20/21L, its worth every penny to me.

Para ordnance p14 magazines

I waited weeks for this gun to come in. I even ordered an extra 50 dollar mag right off the bat. It finally arrives and I do a good fluff and buff and head off to the range with 300 rounds of various .Para ordnance p14 magazines and FMJs. This 900+ dollar gun is a total jam-o-matic. I am bummed and pretty pissed. I would expect this performance from a Taurus but not Para ordnance p14 magazine. I almost got the baby eagle .45 instead and right now Im wishing I did. After the first trip out, yes I did strip it down and detail clean it and all that. Next trip out, same thing. Totally unreliable. I am going to call Para customer service tomorrow and see what they say. Until then two thumbs down on this one.

Colt 1903 magazine

Your post shows a complete lack of knowledge with respect to the subject at hand A Colt is an entirely different animal from a semi-custom (which you seem to acknowledge) and other than for an intended application, there is no fair basis of comparison between the two. The semi custom is a superior package in every way, including features, workmanship, fit, finish, and service. Colt 1903 magazines OTOH makes a production pistol which is in an entirely different class, competing with the likes of Kimber, Springfield, Para, etc.

North of $1,000? that’s like saying that Minnesota is miles north of Texas. If you can find a semi custom USED for $1,000, let me know and I’ll be on it like a fly circling over your post. As for investing $300 more in a Colt and it will ? no different than that of a Wilson or Baer… I don’t know what word(s) you ommitted in your post, but you cannot dress up a Colt with $300 and expect a fair basis of comparison with a semi custom. A couple of years back, Yost-Bonitz did a package to modify a Colt (or SA) at or beyond the level of your basic semi custom. The price of the work was about 1,000 for their entry package. Adding the price of the donor Colt 1903 magazine, you have a pistol that meets/exceeds a semi custom for the price that meets/exceeds the pricepoint of a semi custom. Colts are excellent platforms for customization and the potential is only limited by the artisan who works it, but the factory Colt is no bargain substitute for what you get in the other classes of pistols.

As to the OP, I can understand your reason for selecting a Colt 1903 magazines, and your sentiments are shared by thousands who insist on Colt for their production AND their custom needs. There is no denying the heritage, and that commands a niche market others cannot touch. Like others have said, the Gold Cup was made for target shooting, and I think that would be your best bet. I would look into the Talo if you have the money

Magpul

Got to see Chris run his bolt action .308 with the Magpul. He was fast as lighting and hit the steel plate every time. Got to watch him unload a couple mags on the the steel plate at an very fast pace, he didn’t miss once. Guy is a great shot and very down to earth. Got to talk to him for a few minutes in between target changes.

He was pretty cool and down to earth

Walther p99 magazines

Recommended on another site was heavy lube and working the action dry cycle…I kid you not…Walther p99 magazine times: I did it to mine…quite a little workout…wear a glove.

Then fire a couple of Walther p99 magazines .

There’s alot of debate whether you should run only ball ammo in them.

Again, from elsewhere; important ammo considerations.

1. OAL of the round.

2. Shape of the round…HP must be as close to ball in shape as possible.

3. Feed ramp angle and polish; though this is only infrequently a problem.

Remington 95 gr FMJ seemed to meet approval, Winchester equivelent would most likely be fine; all else, especially anything not ball, simply must be tried out.

Though a good break-in is recommended before you start experimenting with the HP ammo.

AR-15 Accessories and Parts

Sorry, this is not correct. The AR-15 SPR absolutely does indeed use a rifle length gas system.

As far as us ‘enthusiasts’ know, the military has not adopted the mid system in any form yet.

Certainly not in the SPR.

I’m sure some more experienced folks might have more info on this though…

for an 18" build, the one advantage I give the mid and why I have them, is that I personally think that it balances out the gas system better to have AR-15 accessories inches of barrel in FRONT of the gas port rather than ~4.

we had a thread on this before regarding dissapators and gas systems.

The SPR uses a rifle length gas system. Just look at the post by Milla here, you can clearly see the gas tube extending past the KAC rails.
